1. Fresh Start

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.

January 6, 2012 is the perfect day for a fresh start. Why? The easy answer is, why not?     It is the beginning of a New Year and there is no better time to start something fresh and new.  Whether it be a new journey, project, stage in life, or even just a new attitude, NOW is the time.  Most of us have just recently hung our new calendars, stocked our new planners and started to put the last year of papers away.  Now I am faced with a year of blank days and a choice, I can look at these days with fear of the hows, wheres and whys that an unwritten year may hold or I can see those blank days as openings for the endless possibilities that an inspired life can bring. How we start certainly doesn’t determine where we will finish but I think an open mind and an open heart are two attitudes that I am ready to bring to this New Year.  Why not?

Affirmation: With an open mind and an open heart, I claim now is the time for a fresh start!

Call To Action: Take the first step on a new adventure today and share that with someone. If you are called to please share that action in the comments.

  1. I’m going to take your thought about putting the calendars and planners away for 2011 and expand on it in my own life. My commitment this week is to let go of something every day. It might be items from my closet one day, worn-out ideas the next day, clutter a different day, or a routine that isn’t productive later in the week. I might even stop watching one TV program if I want to add a different one. Nothing is sacred – if it drains my energy, it’s gone. I have started today by ‘unsubscribing’ to email lists that I find in my mailbox every day that I read with a sense of obligation or semi-interest. The message must be part of my focus for 2012 if I want to remain as a subscriber. I will release them with blessings.

    • I want to be like YOU when I grow up! Thanks for the inspiration re letting go of emails that don’t serve my vision today!

    • Karen,

Thank you for the reminder that nothing is sacred that is stealing from our creative energy. Congrats on the start to unsubscribing from those e-mails that do not add to your life. We are grateful for your contribution with Change Your Life Friday. Have a great week.

  2. In th movie “We Bought A Zoo” Benjamin Mee is asked why he spend his life savings on a run-down zoo/animals and his reply – WHY NOT – following our heart/Spirit and doing good is what life is about right?

    • Teresa,

Thank you for that scenario from a recent movie. I think it is powerful when we can see Spirit in popular culture and can relate that to others. Have a amazing start to your weekend.

  3. I spend so much money eating out, $10 at breakfast, lunch and $10-20 on dinner. My fresh start is cooking more at home. I like cooking. I want to eat healthy. Why should I spend so much money eating out all the time? I just made myself eggs and oatmeal with berries. The whole meal costs me less than $1. My body will benefit all day operating at its highest potential with the correct fuel I need.

  4. Heading out to play some tennis with an old friend. We have not played together in years – look forward to connecting, getting some exercise, and breathing in the outdoors. Welcome 2012! : )

  5. I’m working on a new me, and what better time to make a fresh start than the New Year. This morning I got really upset at something, and someone. Afterward, I realized that I over-reacted. I was too harsh. I didn’t handle it well. Then I felt terrible. Voice inside my head: “Ok, now what? What to do? What’s the *right* thing to do??” I quickly phoned back to admit my mistake, apologize, and make amends as best I could.

It took a long time for me to understand something so simple: If I work to keep my mind and my heart in the right spot, most everything else seems to fall into place.

    • Ray,

Thank You for sharing that powerful story with us. What a gift that even after your morning started with an unpleasant change you were able to make it right and continue on. A lesson I know that will stick with all of us moving forward.

  6. This morning I read this message from the Hopi Elders Via, Architects of Change

I will take nothing personally. I will step away from the shore into the middle of the river, and flow with the waters of change.

“A Message From the Hopi Elders,

You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.
Now you must go back and tell the people that this is The Hour.
Here are the things that must be considered:
    Where are you living?
    What are you doing?
    What are your relationships?
    Are you in right relation?
    Where is your water?
    Know our garden.
It is time to speak your Truth.
    Create your community.
    Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.
This could be a good time!
There is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift, that there are those who will be afraid.
They will try and hold onto the shore.
They will feel they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly.
Know the river has its destruction.
The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open and our heads above the water.
And I say, see who is in there with you and celebrate.
At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally.
    Least of all ourselves.
For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over.
    Gather yourselves.
Banish the word “struggle” from your attitude and vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and celebration.
We are the ones we have been waiting for!”

    • MPB,

Wow what a powerful quote that you shared with us here. I was able to really connect and learn from some of the tough questions posed. I hope this online community can help us “in a sacred manner and celebration.” Thank you for your support of the site, comment, and help.

  7. Today marks a huge new beginning for me. I was offered a dream job this afternoon and gladly accepted it. The foundation of this new beginning is that when I put aside my fear and move forward with excitement at the possibilities ahead of me I find myself in a better place then I ever could have imagined in my fearful mind. I will continue to try and outgrow fear by contributing to the world around me and perceiving every fearful situation as an opportunity rather than a threat.

    • ElissaMary,

Congratulations on the new job and a dream job at that. What a blessing when we are able to experience the good that the Universe has to offer. Thank you for the continued contribution to the world around you. We are also very grateful for your contribution here on the site.

    • Hey I know you 🙂 thanks for letting me be a part of. Life is sacred, fleeting and magical. Today I want to live as if the world really ends in 2012. What kind of contibution will it be said that I made? Whom did I help? Do I live and operate in faith? Is my sole purpose to better myself, love God and others with more devotion and fervor than ever before? I’m blessed beyond measure and life trusting in God is the best life I could ask for.
